A raw black tourmaline crystal runs the full length of a smoky quartz stone, left in its natural rod-like form rather than cut or polished down — the crystal's structure is fully visible, sharp facets and all. Black tourmaline of this length, still intact inside its host stone, is uncommon; most black tourmaline is broken apart or cut into small accent pieces long before it ever reaches jewelry.

The quartz surrounding it is left rough and natural, with visible internal fractures — nothing is cleared or polished away. What you see is exactly how the stone formed.
